Ethiopia Human Rights Front and Center, Again!

Oh, the twists and turns on the road to an Ethiopia human rights legislation in the U.S. Congress. The first leg of that journey began in the House of Representatives with H.R. 4423 (“Ethiopia Consolidation Act of 2005”).

Then came H.R. 5680 (“Ethiopia Freedom, Democracy, and Human Rights Advancement Act of 2006”) Then there was H.R. 2003 (“Ethiopia Democracy and Accountability Act of 2007”) which passed in the House last October with a unanimous vote and sent to the Senate. |

The Coalition for HR 2003 / September 10, 2008
The Coalition for HR 2003 has learned that Senator Russ Feingold (D-WI), Chairman of the Subcommittee on African Affairs, introduced a bill entitled “Support for Democracy and Human Rights in Ethiopia Act of 2008”. We are grateful to Senator Feingold and his staff for introducing this legislation in the Senate.

Will the Real James Inhofe, Please Stand Up!?
Oyez! Oyez! Oyez! Republican Oklahoma Senator James Inhofe, defender and self-described "brother" and "friend" of dictator Zenawi and arch nemesis of H.R. 2003 in the U.S. Senate, is a champion of human rights! Don't laugh. It is true. I think. Oyez! Oyez! Oyez! Republican Oklahoma Senator James Inhofe is a coddler of thugs, criminals, human rights violators and war criminals! Is he? I am pretty sure of it. Then again, may be not. Will the real James Inhofe, please stand up!? |

Teddy Afro in Zenawi's Kangaroo Court
The great Tewodros Kassahun (Teddy Afro) is Zenawi's most famous political prisoner in Ethiopia today. Zenawi jacked Teddy on bogus charges of vehicular manslaughter, failure to assist the injured and driving without a license. |

Coalition for H.R. 2003 / February 4, 2008
American foreign policy in Africa over the past one-half decade has vacillated on a pendulum of confusion and ineptitude. Nowhere has this fact been more magnified than in the Horn of Africa. The irrefutable evidence is that the current U.S. administration has sleepwalked its way through the Darfur catastrophe and botched the job in Somalia through its proxy regime, and is now muddling through the Kenya fiasco. Due to the inept foreign policy of the current administration, more people in Africa today mistrust and fear the United States than at any time in the past several decades. |
